Commerce and business studies have only recently acquired prime importance especially in larger cities, which are becoming financial centers. Applications to commerce colleges in the city have multiplied tenfold, giving rise to many Specializations at the undergraduate degree level. The first as well as the strongest option has been pursuing chartered accountancy along with BCom. This is an intensive course and requires hard work, persistence and commitment. It is a combination, which even today is a good option for students. On the other hand, BCom with Accountancy and Finance (BAF), BCom with Banking and Insurance (BBI) and BCom with Financial Markets (BFM) are newer options that have been introduced and address industry needs in the financial sector and Bachelor of Management (BMS) are also popular options, which have application-oriented courses. These new courses have a hands-on approach and include project and practical work. Today, commerce and management degrees are taking a lead in establishing academic rigour, along with strong skill-sets which are required for a competitive global world.The study of commerce, today, is fundamental to all sectors of the society and economy.
